WordPress – Ethical Dilemma

WordPress Ethical Dilemma

If you have 20 posts to like or comment, you cannot do them all within 5 minutes. If you could, your account will be blocked for spamming! WordPress Ethical Dilemma: As their numbers and posts are increasing over time, how do you usually keep up with friends on WordPress?

WordPress Ethical Dilemma: Summary of comments:

Reading is a must

Yet many emphasized the importance of the title, most comments were about reading a post is a must. A like or a comment should be only given to worthy posts. Relatively, some felt bad about receiving a lot of likes from the same person in a short time; they considered recording likes without reading a disrespect.

Time Management

Most agreed that reading takes time that is not always available. Many talked about their philosophy in following others and how to manage updates. First, a group of important users where importance is based on the topics of interest or on users who contribute to our blogs regularly. Second, following less. Third, utilizing the time of waiting in more reading or contributing. Relatively, they referred to the bad system of WordPress in keeping up with friends; a lot could be missed if one is absent for a while. Are weekly digests enough? Or should we have a system similar to Facebook where top posts are listed first?

Support Others

On other hand, some argued that likes are a way of supporting friends. After all, we trust some friends and their posts but we lack the time โ€“ Weโ€™re saying that we’re here and havenโ€™t forgotten about you.

Favorite Tool

Some referred to something else. Likes are favorite tool. Thus, theyโ€™re pinning posts for later reading. Probably, theyโ€™ve already read them through emails so theyโ€™re doing all the likes at once.

WordPress Ethical Dilemma

Almost all declined the existence of persons with ability of fast skimming or predicting. There was some talking about awards posts and the importance of short posts in blogging world. What about achievement posts or one-picture with no words posts? Posts with different languages? What about bloggers posting many posts per day? What about people who are seeking likes only? (technically speaking, the number of likes has no effect)?

If this resonated with you, letโ€™s stay in touch. No spam.

Woah ! Didn’t know about that

As I mentioned earlier, my friend, I don’t know if the numbers I posted above about 20 posts and 5 mins are 100% accurate. Additionally, things will be restored to normal after few hours of blocking. I’m not aware of if repeating that could lead for permanent blocking

Since I am new to blogging, I have thought about the same issues. I graduated from school before multiple languages were a requirement so I never learned another language. When I get likes or posts that are in other languages, I stop and wonder if the Google Translate will be correct in the translation. Sometimes I simply delete them because I have no idea what I would be agreeing to and don’t trust Google either.

      2. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Posts in different languages are very important case. Darlene, you highlighted very crucial point about Liking is agreeing. So, even me, I should more careful.
Way to go for Google! It’s not only me who doesn’t trust Google ๐Ÿ˜‰ I have many issues with them. Yet I don’t totally agree with Microsoft either, I found myself heading toward them in someway. Anyway, I believe that one should never put their eggs in one basket

It is not easy to answer the question. Blogging is so diverse in terms of bloggers and posts shared. Rather than an ethicaI dilemma I would see it as a matter of paying attention by liking or commenting posts. I think it matters that behind every like or comment is a person who likes, comments or argues about something that really matters.I am also curious about posts that show a different way of thinking, and even if I do not comment or like them, whenever possible I try to read them and see other points of view.
I try to follow this general rule, rather than to reach everybody and not miss a post.I believe that this builds consistency and fairness in long term blogging.

Albina, Iโ€™m always thankful for your continuous support. Many tend to believe so – where some likes (whether the post has been read or not) are part of showing โ€œhey Iโ€™m here for you and havenโ€™t forgotten about youโ€. After all, there are many other situations where we fully contributedโ€ฆ I also support your idea about reading comments. Sometimes, they are as important as the post itself

There are sometimes I just don’t have time to read everything I want to. A like is a dangerous thing if we take it seriously that everyone who sends a like agrees with our point of view. But in a broader sense, I believe Likes are just a show of support for taking the time to write in the first place.

      2. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Wow, Darlene. I never thought of it this way. That’s a scary point actually. A like is actually I agree on your content or point of view.

I wasn’t aware of this but why would someone want to? I try to keep my favorites at a number where I can take the time to read, enjoy, and leave a comment. I frequently have to alter managing those I follow because there is no way to keep up with reading all of their posts. If a blogger hasn’t posted within 6 months, I unfollow them.

    1. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Thank you Franci for the important note in following philosophy – time span between posting. Also, a lot seem to support the idea of less following or a group of important users in order to read more carefully.

      1. -Eugenia Avatar

I like a smaller group that reads more carefully. I would rather have 1000 followers that read than 2000 followers that just do a drive thru. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      2. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

        I totally agree too

    2. intenttowin Avatar

I understand. I made my blog a few years ago and basically forgot about it. When I started applying for writing jobs, everyone wants an online presence. I didn’t want to send them to my facebook, so I worked up a profile and started blogging again. Thanks for your advice about keeping it fresh.

      1. -Eugenia Avatar

Yours is a great idea to make your blog your online presence. That way you can tailor it as you wish.

That’s a very nice problem to have ๐Ÿ™

    1. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Thank you Pauline. So, you support the idea of a lot of Likes ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s a dilemma I don’t think is easy to deal with. I have a small number of dedicated followers that I follow back. There are many who follow to increase their stats hoping I’ll follow back. It’s evident when you never see them comment or like a published post. I’m just grateful to have my small number of virtual friends! ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒธ Christine

    1. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Thank you very much Christine. Another point of view in following philosophy – people who never comment or like. It seems that the dedicated users (favorites) are the solution used by most of us here.

    2. intenttowin Avatar

I want a good network of people following me to build an online presence required by online job posters. But sometimes I like to just read what everyone says and if I like it fine and if not fine. It reminds me of why I purchased a computer back in the 1980’s. So I could stay connected to people everywhere.

This is a shared constraint. For me, I just have to let go of some opportunities and view as time allows.

    1. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Thank you my friend. Yes, the time is the big issue. But viewing some is still good…

  7. Hussein Allam Avatar

Hhhhh, noticed this habit! It’s a poor way for reading 20 posts in one shot

    1. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Thank you Hussein. We’re always glad to see something from you my friend as we miss you a lot. But at the same time, we wish you all luck. Yes, it’s noticeable and thus why WordPress imposed such a constraint.

  8. aquibview Avatar

    Yea, but really?

    1. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Yes, it’s for real. Not sure of the numbers mentioned above nor about if repeating that could lead for permanent block

  9. magickmermaid Avatar

I try to read as many as I can every day!

    1. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Well, that is the main and the most important point Morgaine. Yet many argue about the titles and the contents, will they help the reading or not?

  10. mainepaperpusher Avatar

How does everyone deal with awards and tags? I love my followers for nominating me, don’t get me wrong, but some of those suckers are time-consuming. I currently have 7 backed up and I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do. I hate not doing them, but if I did those, I wouldn’t be writing the blog they like! Yikes!

    1. intenttowin Avatar

I wasn’t sure if I was biting off my nose to spite my face but I have totally ignored the awards and nominating thing. You are correct about time-consuming. I barely have time to read and reply to what I find important, let alone going through a WordPress chain letter. If it is really important, someone will tell me.

      1. mainepaperpusher Avatar

I agree. I have stopped nominating people. I am now going to stop doing tags and awards. I’ve been thinking about doing what Mohamad has done in the past by sending out a single post to thank the nominators. Sigh…it is so hard to ignore such a nice thing, but it must be done. I very much appreciate your feedback. It makes me feel better about all of this.

    2. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

      Very frank talking ๐Ÿ˜‰
Personally, I like to keep friends with all and not to hurt any. So, I dedicated a page/post for all awards so we win all sides ๐Ÿ˜€

    3. Eirini Avatar

Haha, Nominations and awards… They are wonderful. Truly make you feel loved in the big world of blogging. I love them but myself I barely have time for them ๐Ÿ™ .. I guess its one of those things you truly appreciate but you gotta pick what you have time for… :/

      1. mainepaperpusher Avatar

That is so true! I figured this was one way to thank everyone, get their blog URL out there for others to peruse, but still not feel overwhelmed and guilty for not doing all of the questions and nominations.
