DuckDuckGo

duckduckgo-logoThere are few good internet search engines… Well, I don’t care much about the studies that prefer one over others in term of speed, indexing, search depth…. After all, I quickly find what I’m looking for using any. Though, if you’re into Google’s, using Google Search will enrich your experience. The same can be said about Bing from Microsoft…

I’d like to invite you here to give DuckDuckGo a try – https://duckduckgo.com/

DuckDuckGo is an Internet search engine that emphasizes protecting searchers’ privacy… It distinguishes itself from other search engines by not profiling its users and by deliberately showing all users the same search results for a given search term.

So, if you prefer the results to be tailored based on your internet history, this one isn’t for you.

For me, I just want a search tool only! Google Search and Bing are bloated with stuffs that I don’t use or care about – especially on phone. Talking about phones, I believe DuckDuckGo mobile application is still in need for more work.

What is your preferred search engine?

If this resonated with you, let’s stay in touch. No spam.

I just love the name DuckDuckGo! I usually opt for Google. I am not a fan of Bing, and I can’t tell you exactly why. I’m just not comfortable with it. I like privacy aspect you mentioned here. I might have to give DuckDuckGo a whirl!

Thank you Linda. Google is the king for sure. I know you love ducks too 😀
They say “Google it!” I’ve also heard “Bing it”. But I never heard “Duck it!!!!”

        Hahahahahaha!!!! Good one!! 😀

Duckduckgo has been caught with a tracking cookie and their CEO used to make money off selling user data. I rather stick to scandal free StartPage.com

Thank you, Lopy. I spent good amount of time searching but I haven’t found anything related to what you have claimed here. I totally appreciate your reference(s) if any.

I like the idea of StartPage.com but I haven’t got time to fully test it. Additionally, I could understand that it mainly uses Google results which might not be preferred by many.

Honestly, DuckDuckGo was first introduced to me through Firefox as it’s one of FF’s default search engines.

    I’ll give it a try.

Thank you, Ken. Hopefully, you won’t regret it 🙂

I always use Google. And I have AdBlock Plus so advertisements are eliminated automatically. I remember DuckDuckGo from years ago. I’ll check it out! 🙂

The mermaid of WordPress, thank you. I love your photography and paintings. Hopefully you won’t regret trying DDG! Personally, I don’t like AdBlock extensions. I feel they are spying every things I’m doing on the browser!

Thank you so much, Mohammad! I have come to the conclusion that nothing is really safe online. 🙂 The advertisements are so intrusive that it was a relief to get rid of them. 🙂

        I almost agree. However, a little caution won’t hurt… 🙂

I forget to use DuckDuckGo. I open FireFox and Google after I boot up my laptop but I use Google for most of my searches. I have ad blockers on FireFox, Google, and the Edge.

    1. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Thank you, Franci. I know… DDG was there on Firefox for long time but I noticed it recently.
Yet I don’t like ad blockers extensions a lot, they are handy. I never get bothered by ads though!

I just use Google cause I’m tied in to my email address LOL. My new notebook computer is mad because I don’t use my Microsoft account and Bing, but what the heck.

    1. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Wow, congratulations on the new notebook, Darlene. I’m happy to hear it. Yes, as I said, if you’re more into Google’s, using their Search will enrich your experience for sure.

I hate Windows because they are trying to force us to use their products – I’m already use a lot of them! Anyway, I believe it’d be better experience to sign with your MS account on Windows 10 computers. You are still able to disable most of their preinstalled apps – directly or indirectly.

      1. intenttowin Avatar

Yes Microsoft would love it if it were a dictatorship instead of a democracy. My notebook even told me when I installed Google Chrome that I was wasting space when I could use their browser and Bing. It probably gets some folks to fall for that. LOL

They also tell that this file (Chrome) could harm your computer hehehe…

Google and Yahoo but I will definitely check this out! Anything with “Go” and “Ducks” ought to be good! Thanks!

    1. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Yahoo was mainly Bing’s. I don’t know how things will be after Verizon bought Yahoo! Thank you, Carolyn. Very convincing… 🙂

ok so i compare all of them, and this one is pretty great at showing videos or products and fast also, good browser i guess.

    1. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Thank you, Chandra. Glad to hear that you find it good. Yes, the mobile application can work as a browser too.

I️ have been using duck duck go for a while now. Of course sometimes I️ do use google just because it’s google. 😊

    1. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Thank you very much. How do you like it by now? DDG is the main search engine for me but I totally agree that we can’t totally abandon Google’s. I still use Bing too every now and then.

  10. Mishel Avatar

I love DuckDuckGo. But I prefer Bing and Google.

    1. Mohamad Al Karbi Avatar

Thank you, Mishel. I use a lot of Microsoft services so I prefer Bing too. However, their Android app is turning into a browser which I don’t like. There is no way I leave Firefox 🙂
