Brother, you said a mouthful there. Shortly after I came back from the Gulf War, I suddenly found myself in a whole different war. This time around I found myself a single parent, a soldier, and desperately trying to balance the two. Along the way, I met a lot of single moms, and my question always was, “How the hell do they manage it?”
I mean I knew one girl, she had two girls, was working three different jobs, and still managed to keep the girls good to go, keep a spotless house, and so on.
I on the other hand was doing the Soldier gig with cooking meals, keeping the house straightened up, cooking meals, washing clothes, and trying to squeeze in a few hours sleep here and there.
I’m still trying to figure out how I managed to do that for two and half years.
I finally had to leave the Army, making the choice that being a parent was a greater calling, moved someplace cheaper to live, and managed somehow to make things work.
Oh, what happened to aforementioned girl?
I married her. Happily married twenty-five years comes August.-
