The web is filled with such comparisons; so, I won’t talk much about the difference or the reasons to move… I’ll just simply say that you have to move to .org when .com is not enough. WordPress.com is usually enough for normal user. “NOT ENOUGH”, on the other side, is when you need more control, flexibility, or extra features…
Let me first mention that on WordPress.com, you’re using the Open Source WordPress System in the way Automattic Inc. chose for you. When we say WordPress.org (self-hosted), we mean that you’re using the Open Source WordPress System in your own way.
First of all, Mohamad is one of my first blog friends. He has supported me during my entire blog journey. A few days ago, I migrated to a Self-hosted blog and then I backed out shortly. I felt honored when Mohamad asked me to do a guest post on my experience. Thanks Mohamad.
In a previous post, I wrote how I started my personal website with WordPress.com then moved to Blogger and ended up with my own site (ASP) and hosting (at Web Wiz). Now, after almost a year, I’m moving back to WordPress.com
It’s nice for sure to have your own website; a personal web site with your own name. But building a website might be costy and time consuming. It requires efforts too to balance between design & contents. A good solution would be to use one of the blogging services out there such as WordPress or Blogger. These services usually provide almost everything you might need in a blog for free or for reasonable price. They serve as a webblog and as a personal website in the same time. Some might use them for business purposes though; there are a lot of examples here and a lot of business & professional templates/themes too. It’s interesting to know that huge amount of the world websites nowadays use WordPress.
